A PUNCH IN THE GUT
David Ortiz is out for at least a month according to Tony Massarotti. As I was reading this article, all I could think about was Nomah NOT No more Nomar (a classic post, if I do say so myself). Damn, I love Big Papi. This just makes me sick.
If Ortiz is out for an extended period of time, at least as a DH, the Sox can acquire a decent bat. Here are some possibilities: Matt Holliday, Brian Giles, Jason Bay, Adam Dunn, and Griffey Jr. But Frank Thomas would be the best fit. He isn't in the A's plans, would not cost the Sox much in dollars or talent, and Billy Beane will need to make room on the roster when Thomas and others come back from the DL. Eventually like in August, Beane wants Ryan Sweeney, Carlos Gonzalez, Travis Buck in the outfield, Daric Barton at first and Jack Cust at DH.
