JOSH BECKETT
It is certainly a set back that Josh Beckett will not be pitching twice in the ALDS, but the development is not a “Mother F*^ker!” moment…yet. If the Ace can’t go at all or the walk machine pitches a Game 5, we have an issue. Dice-K in a Game 5 flares up my ulcer just thinking about that possibility.
As for Game 3, Both Wake and Byrd would be questionable matchups against LAA. Vlad and Hunter kill the knuckleball and Garret Anderson has had some success as well with five dingers. Byrd, as a control pitcher, is the type that gets hammered in the postseason unless he is near perfect with his command. Vlad, Anderson, and Teixeira have hit him well in the past. Although LAA being a relatively free swinging lineup, P.B. & Junk stuff might be better against the likes of Kendrick, Anderson, and Aybar. Since Byrd would seem to be the better matchup and Wake has experience coming out of the pen, P.B. & J is the best option to start Game 3 if Beckett can’t.
