SCHIL AND COCO
Curt Schilling could be done. If so, the Sox do need another starter since Josh Beckett is the only lock to make 30 plus starts. Dice-K had fatigue issues, Wake was hurt and isn’t getting any younger, Lester and Buchholz are young and won’t be pushed. The Sox will need another pitcher to hedge their bets against penciling Tavarez in the starting lineup and that person is Joe Blanton.
Jed Lowrie could bring the inexpensive, 200 inning workhorse for the next three seasons. Scouts are mixed on Lowrie’s ability to stay at SS. If he can’t, Lowrie doesn’t have a future with the Sox. Even so, it is going to be tough for the Sox to give up on Lugo. Plus, the Sox might need a fifth starter soon as many doubt Justin Masterson’s ability to be in that role. Most scouts project him as reliever. Blanton would be a great pickup for the Sox now and in the next few years.

The Padres is the only destination for Coco. He could play left field, which allows Chase Headley to get used the outfield and beat up on AAA pitching. Coco moves to center and Headley to left in 2009 or when Jim Edmonds gets hurt. Crisp gives the Pads depth this season and a reasonable priced option for center in the next few years. And as always…stay classy San Diego or at least classier than Tomlinson.
