PITCHING PROJECT
The acquisition of David Aardsama should be John Farrell’s 2008 pet project. Any pitcher that strikes out more than a batter an inning has good stuff, which is like great speed in the NFL, as electronic John Madden would say “You can‘t teach speed; draft it.” But any pitcher that strikes out more than a batter an inning and gets traded has issues.
Aardsama has control problems. The big hard throwing righty gives the pen added depth and upside. It appears the pen is set - Paps, Oki, Delcarmen, Timlin, Lopez, Synder, and Aardsama (He is out of options as is Lopez and Synder). And unless someone gets hurt, Clay Buchholz is going to start in RI. Damn, this is going a fun season!
