MITCHELL REPORT AND TIM DONAGHY

The Mitchell Report (number of google hits 2,260,000) should not be “above the flap” news. And not because we already knew baseball players were taking drugs to enhance their production, but we should expect it. Yes, we should anticipate that professional athletes are going to push the limits to get better. We forget that these guys are extremely ambitious. Many have and will continue to take risks to be better. MLB players are both physical and mental freaks. I’m certainly not condoning the use of illegal drugs. All I am saying is that, unfortunately, this should be expected by world class athletes. It is a part of what makes them who they are.

What I think is and was the bigger story regarding the cheaters in sports is NBA referee, Tim Donaghy fixing games (number of google hits 235,000). By definition, he is supposed to be an impartial party that enforces the rules of the game. Everyone who loves all sports should be outraged by Donaghy, including the main stream media. The Donaghy story got very little coverage relatively the “cheating” baseball players, which almost is as big of a disgrace as Donaghy himself.
