TIME FOR REHAB
We are aware of the Sox health issues – Manny, Ortiz, Okajima, Gagne, Youk – but they are relatively minor compared to LAA. Vlad, Escobar and Matthews’ health problems have already been mentioned briefly and are significant.
If Vlad or Matthews can’t go in the field, it will put “What you talkin’ ‘bout” Willits? in the field instead of Juan Rivera or Kendry Morales at DH which further limits LAA power threats. Escobar is still scheduled to start game three after an effective last outing. It appears that the LAA wants to give him as much time off like Schilling. Before his last start on 11 days rest, Escobar was getting killed and assisted in sinking my fantasy baseball team.
Will Carroll for Baseball Prospectus has reported that Bartolo Colon and Justin Speier as having injury issues too. Colon is a wild card in the series as he may or may not provide LAA with another strikeout alternative in the pen. His recent history of arm injuries makes him a risk. Speier is apparently “pitching on a sprained knee, which could lead to some mechanical changes or, worse, a loss of velocity.” It didn’t affect him in September. Speier will be tough on RHB especially, Lowell and DP, since they are susceptible to sliders. The off days should help both relievers.
