Nancy Drew is not the only sock that should be blamed for the underperforming offense. Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo should be getting about the same amount of our angst. Even though both are hitting better after the break, they have still sucked. All three have produced far under their PECOTA projections. Drew should be 285/392/476, Lugo 284/347/406 and Coco 310/361/452. For the year, the trio is woefully under performing.
Drew and Lugo had high collapse probabilities at 33% and 40%, respectfully, so their struggles are not totally surprising. And with that, Theo should share in the blame as well. Plus, WMP and Cora were/are not adequate substitutes.
The overall power outage is an issue too. Add Manny (SLG - 495) and Tek (416) to the above three as hitters slugging far below their projections. Thankfully, Mike Lowell is having a contract and career year.
It is now too late to make an acquisition. Hopefully, the nine penciled into the lineup over this month and next (knock on wood) start hitting because that was a big reason the Sox won back in 2004. They scored 90 runs in only 14 playoff games.
