ONE TOO MANY OPTIONS FOR TERRY

Eric Gagne clearly has put the Sox in a hole after blowing two games in Baltimore, but Francona didn’t do the team any favors either. Where was Papelbon?

The acquisition of Gagne should not force Francona to a traditional reliever usage pattern – Okajima and Gagne to Papelbon for the ninth. Given Paps health issue, it is even more crucial that he is brought into the game at the most critical times NOT just saving him for the ninth like on Saturday. Even though it was only three pitches, Paps still needs to warm up and it is an appearance that likely limits his availability in the next couple of games - for instance yesterday. Papelbon could have come in the eighth inning against Tejada for a five out save after not working in three days. Francona’s usage of Pap this past weekend was terrible.

The Olde Towne Team will need to kick some a$$ at home this week against some good starters. Hopefully, they will have a 5-2 record this time next week and escaping this stretch of the schedule.
