FIVE AND TWO OR THREE
Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Danny Ainge and Doc Joan Rivers have two seasons. If they don’t get close to banner #17 after the 2008-9 season, Allen and his expiring contract will be moved. The next year P Squared and KG will be traded by a new GM, who will hire a real Head Coach. The five have a two, maybe three year window to get lucky and bring back a World Championship.
And they will need to be lucky. Only 10 teams since 1975 have won it all without a Hall Of Fame center and six of those ten were Jordan's Bulls. The Green’s stretch of bad luck has to change, right? Len Bias, Reggie Lewis, Tim Duncan, and this past June - the tides have to turn. It could happen, but don’t bet the kid’s college fund on those 5-1 Vegas odds.
On a more positive note, this is a great signal to not only the fan base, but to the entire NBA that the Celtics are back. The new owners are indicating to the rest of the league and most importantly, potential free agents, that we are in it to win it. The Celtics are players.
