TY WIGGINGTON WAS TRADED TO HOUSTON FOR DAN WHEELER
Unless acquiring Ty Wigginton is part of another deal, this makes no sense for the Astros. Dan Wheeler, as a power relief pitcher, has to have more value this time of the year than a utility infielder with some pop. It is not an apples-to-apples comparison but Tadahito Iguchi was traded for a non-pitching prospect (if you don't make BA Prospect Handbook, your not a prospect). "Houston, we have a problem."
As for Tampa, they can now market Wheeler or hold onto him and Reyes for next season. The Rays pen has been horrible. Another nice recent move was picking up Grant Balfour for Seth McClung. Balfour has more upside, as he has demonstrated an ability to strikeout a hitter per inning, than McClung. They also traded a useless part for them, Jorge Cantu albeit way too late, for two non-prospect pitchers. The D-Rays have had a good couple of days.
