THE SOX SHOULD SIGN RUSSELL BRANYAN
The Padres released utilityman Russell Branyan. It is easy to look at the negative in Branyan - low average, marginal OBP and defense, and high strikeouts - but inking Branyan to a minor-league deal would make sense. The Sox would get some additional insurance on the corners and a power threat off the bench against righties; Branyan has hit 253/363/531 from 2004-2006. He is worth a minor-league deal.
...AND TY WIGGINGTON IS OUT OF THE D-RAYS LINEUP FOR TONIGHT. HE COULD BE TRADED?
