PUTTING IT TOGETHER

The Phillies are likely the third team and are holding up Dye coming to Boston.

From BP’s Mill,

The Phillies are in the market for a pitcher, but they've had trouble matching up. One source said that they might end up being a good third team in a deal, and there have been a couple of three-way discussions over the past 24 hours.

Plus, we know, according to the Boston Globe, that Philly has interest in Tavarez and from the Denver Post indicating that the Sox and other sox have a deal in place for WMP. With that being said, the Sox would probably ship Tavarez and a B prospect to Philly for Michael Bourn. Bourn and Wily Mo Pena would then head to Chicago for Dye.

Bourn gives the other sox a young speedy centerfielder, the Sox get their man - Dye, and Philly gets a versatile relatively cheap pitcher for this season and next. The two issues holding up the deal is who is the B prospect and if Philly can get a deal down with Aaron Rowand. Of course, Philly and the other sox could be holding out for a better deal as well.
