ERIC HINSKE OUT AND BRANDON MOSS IN
My initial assessment of the Sox bench (WMP, Hinske, Belli and Cora) was incorrect. They have been horrible at the plate. As we know, Theo is actively trying to trade WMP and looking for right-handed alternative for the outfield. (It is unrealistic to think the Olde Towne Team is going to have hitters on the pine at catcher and shortstop). But what has not gotten enough ink is that Hinske has been terrible. That game saving diving catch is saving Hinske from media and fan scrutiny.
Fortunately, the Sox may see an internal solution - Brandon Moss. Last night, one of the top hitters in the International League played first base. It did not appear to be out of necessity since Jeff Bailey, a first baseman, was in left. It may not be more than Moss and the Sox seeing this as a way for him to get to the Show with Mike Lowell likely out of Boston in 2008 or it could be that the Sox are sick of a lineups that include three automatic outs - Hinske, Cora, Belli.
