DYE LIKELY NOT COMING TO BOSTON
It is reasonable for Chicago to ask for Justin Masterson and Wily Mo Pena. WMP will be essentially on a two month trial to determine if he is worth being tendered a contract. He has little value. Without Masterson, Chicago is better off holding on to Dye and rolling the draft dice.
With that being said, it does not make sense for the Sox to let Masterson go because they will likely only use Dye as platoon in right / defensive replacement / pinch hitter. He would be a complementary player and insurance policy on the Sox. Dye won’t play enough to justify including Masterson but he may somewhere else.
