STILL CONCERNED ABOUT MANNY
Even though Manny hit a homer last night, I am still concerned. As Jerry said, he is pulling off the outside pitch. Manny could use some time doing the "old Frank Mancini special."
As for another aging All-Star, Mike Mussina may need to turn himself into a right-handed Jamie Moyer assuming he is not hurt. A mid-80's fastball is not going to cut it. Mussina morphing into a #3/4 soft tossing control pitcher is good news for the Sox. Power-patient lineups like the Local Nine and the MFY crush those types.
In these cases, the pitcher tries to tempt the hitter to swing at his pitches. But patient hitters wait, getting ahead in the count making the pitcher throw one that gets too much of the plate, and the power hitter gives it a ride.
