POST WEEKEND TRIPLE PLAY - TORRE GOES AND CLEMENS TO BOSTON?
“No, that really isn’t a factor because if he does that [sign with the Red Sox], it’s going to alienate him from people he cares about on the Yankees and the Astros, and if he goes to the Yankees, it’s going to alienate him from the Astros and Red Sox,” the source said.
* If Joe Torre is fired, it gives the Sox a leg up on the Clemens sweepstakes. He will be alienating one less person in New York. And more importantly, it allows Clemens to spin his signing with the Sox on the back of the Tampa Spankees. Plus, both the Astros and MFY are in last place.
* Even though the Sox continued to be sloppy with the leather and on the bases, the Olde Towne Team was able to take two out of three from the MFY but it can not continue.
* David Ortiz has hit into seven double plays already this season. Big Papi grounded into 12 last year, 13 in 2005 and 12 again in 2004. It has only been a month but Ortiz’s G/F ratio is 1.28. He is hitting more balls on the ground than ever. Hopefully, the trend will not continue and neither will the DPs.
