WHAT'S THE PLAN, MAN?
Finally, if the Sox were really thinking about J.D. Drew as a Trot replacement, that option just got a helluva lot more expensive. It’ll be interesting to see what happens here; overpaying on dollars and years for someone like Drew would seem to go against everything the Sox have been working towards as of late; on the other hand, maybe they can get Drew at a relative bargain because of his injury history.
If the Sox sign Drew, it will be for a $hit load of money and they better be going for broke this season. But I think the Sox are really looking to build for 2008 when Carlos Zambrano, Andruw Jones, and Vernon Wells could be free agents, along with lesser players like Adam Dunn, Mike Buerhle, Milton Bradley, Jason Jennings, Michael Young and Torii Hunter. Not to mention guys like Ichirio, Carlos Guillen, Mariano Rivera that will probably resign with their current clubs. The Sox should not go all-in this winter for this relatively mediocre free agent class.
