INSTEAD OF DIVING INTO THE RUMOR MILL…

A quick hit on the MFY’s latest move. Jaret “Subway Bitch” Wright and $4 million was sent to down I-95 to Baltimore for rising sophomore relief pitcher Chris Britton. Most baseball junkies will recall that Wright was one of Leo’s reclamation projects, so the acquisition is not a surprise, but the cost for the often injured and ineffective starter is a shocker.

Even if we give the O’s front office the benefit of the doubt - meaning they believed the MFY would pick up Wright’s contract due to the anticipated explosion in starting pitcher’s salaries, trading an effective setup/middle reliever that will earn less than $.50 million for the next two years is a mistake. (Boy, that is a terrible sentence.) The presumed skyrocketing of salaries, especially for pitchers, makes top 15 players very valuable, and is a part of the reason for acquiring Wright. Where's the logic?

The O’s should not have moved the type of player all clubs should be trying to acquire for a Jaret Wright. Wright will never be the last piece of the World Series puzzle for any club. This was another foolish move by the O's, and another win for the MFY, but maybe not this year if Pavano continues to get cramps every fifth day. (I really don't believe the last line, but I enjoy taking shots at Pavano).
