RED SOX GET REINFORCEMENTS - TRADE FOR ERIC HINSKE
The Boston Herald is reporting that the Sox have acquired Eric Hinske and Carlos Pena. Pena is unlikely to be on the active roster until Sept. call ups. He will provide a power-patient bat off the bench at that time.
Hinske coming to town means that Nixon won't be back until Sept. EH can play any of the four corner positions, provide a patient southpaw stick with some power. Hinske is under contract for $5.6 million next season, but the Sox probably aren't concerned about that right now. The club is looking for him to contribute over the next 45 days and hopefully in October.
