TRADE RUMOR UPDATE - SAY IT AIN'T SO WILY MO
This morning Jayson Stark is reporting that Wily Mo Pena "...is most out there for somebody to scarf up." He goes on to state that... in the words of one front-office man who has spoken with the Red Sox, "I'd be very surprised if Wily Mo Pena is on their team come Monday night."
I'd be shocked if the Sox part with their only legit big bat under 30, but myself and the front office haven't seen eye to eye lately (i.e. Josh Beckett's contract). Anyway, my take on this leak is to get teams to call on the availability of Trot Nixon. The Sox can't actively shop Trot because it will decrease their leverage in negotiations. The teams that do not acquire Soriano or Abreu will still need another bat in the outfield and that list is long - the Other Sox, Tigers, LAA, Twins, Cards, Astros. Nixon has to be one of the "surprising names off their own roster that are said by various clubs to be available."
