MORE THAN A 2-FOR-1

It is not often you get more than 2-for-1 like last night‘s Sox game. (BTW, “Real Sox”, your club is the Other Sox. They nearly got swept at home by the SOX. BTW #2, where the hell was Tito last night? Not protesting Dye’s base running blunder and AJP’s interference with AGone on the potential double play.) The one time for me was New Orleans’ happy hour - it was 3 drinks for the price of 1. New Orleans is a great city.

Chris Smith for ESPN Magazine this week writes about the New Orleans Zephyrs and interviews starting centerfielder, Tyrell Godwin.

Late, as Godwin rolls through the blight, the gesture [free tickets] feels wildly inadequate. Growing furious, he says, “Do you see any cleanup, other than people trying to fix up their own homes? …Where’s the government? Where are the charities? You could walk through here and scream at the top of your lungs, and nobody would even hear you. We’re getting close to a year after [Katrina]…We’re the greatest country in thw world, but we don’t live up to our potential to be good people as far as taking care of our oqn. Where’s the help?

The former two most powerful men in the world's fund isn’t enough. We should be doing more.

Another memorable time I got a 2-for-1 was back in 2003, the Sox were playing in Pittsburgh and were rained out the day before we had tickets. The Pirates decided to have an old fashion double header or a ticket to either game was admission to both. That would never happen at Friendly Fenway. The Pirates could do this because they have fallen on hard times, and now the club is hosting the boring All-Star game.

After the mid-summer classic in 1999 with Pedro and the Greatest Hitter to Ever Live, I’ve thought of the All-Star Game as a Break…from real baseball. The ASG is an over-hyped exhibition game that Bud tried to give meaning to. At least this year, it is at a great ballpark. PNC Park, itself, is my favorite. The area and the atmosphere around it is poor compared to most I have visited, although it should be fun with the ASG. Anyway, I’ll diving into Feeding the Monster on Tuesday.
