"WAKE THE BAMBINO, I'LL DRILL HIM IN THE ASS"
Let me be as clear as possible - Pedro Martinez should not be booed on Wednesday because he did not lie and sign with the Mother F***kin' Yankees. Period. And if last night was any indication, Pedro will get a nice ovation.
No doubt, he took more money to do the same job. But, how many of us would pass on an extra year of job and financial security? Not many of us, right? Regardless, Pedro, unlike Johnny Damon and Roger Clemens, kept his word and did not sign with the MFY.
I will admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for Pedro along with David Ortiz and Curt Schilling. Schilling's bravery, Ortiz carrying the club on his back in the ALCS, and Pedro for allowing me to enjoy those moments in October of 2004. Pedro reinvigorated my passion for the Red Sox, the game of baseball and delivered on the implied promise in 1997 - a World Series Championship. I bet he did the same for most of you, too.
