GAME 1 - LACKEY V LESTER

Even though the Sox have roughed up John Lackey prior to this year, he is one hell of a pitcher and underrated by the MSM. Lackey brings a mid-90’s heater, curveball and slider that he controls throughout the strike zone. He is freaking tough.

Individually, the Sox are a mixed bag versus the big right-hander. Big Papi has hit Lackey well going 333/412/700 with two dingers in 30 at-bats. Youk also has done well hitting 294/294/647 with a couple of homers in 17 at-bats. Tek is terrible putting up a 208/296/333 line over 24 chances. Drew would be an upgrade over Coco or Kotsay. J.D. hits Lackey well at a 313/389/500 clip compared to Crisps’ feeble 182/250/455 or Kotsay’s 265/286/353. Casey should play even if Lowell can go. Lowell is only hitting 158/158/316 versus Lackey.

Yes, I don’t give the Sox much attention in my previews. I assume you, the reader, know the Olde Towne Team. With that being said, Lester has a very good shot at controlling the LAA lineup. Of course, Teixeira and Vlad are going to be tough outs, but Hunter should be susceptible to the Lester’s cutter and high heat with two strikes. G.Anderson has done little to hurt southpaws in the recent past. Napoli and Rivera are power threats, if they play; fatties will hit hard.
