JOHAN SANTANA TO MFY, NOT PRUDENT BUT WILL GET DONE

Vince Gennaro got a lot more in-depth on the value of Johan Santana for Yahoo Sports. He and I both conclude that the Mets stand the most to gain from a financial perspective. But my gut tells me that Santana pitches in the Bronx. Here is how I think it gets done. The Twins absorb Bobby Abreu’s $16 million salary to alleviate Hal Steinbrenner’s financial concern. In return, the Twins get Phil Hughes, Dellin Betances and Bill Smith can dangle Abreu.

The MFY need to win this winter battle over the Mets to sell luxury boxes in the new park. After the NYC financial companies took huge write-offs, and it may be more, future cash flow does not look as promising as it did over the summer. Some may not be able to have a box in both ballparks.
